Mweb — national ISP selling fibre on Vumatel, Openserve and Frogfoot, plus LTE and 5G
Mweb is one of South Africa’s longest-running internet service providers: it says it has connected more than a million homes since 1997 and calls itself the pioneer of uncapped internet. It does not own the fibre in the street. It sells home fibre on other companies’ networks (Vumatel, Vuma Reach, Openserve and Frogfoot), so the speeds and prices you are offered depend on which of them reaches your address. It also sells LTE and 5G from R299 a month, business fibre from R959 a month and an Mweb Voice calling service.
Key facts
| Who they are | Mweb (Pty) Ltd, a national internet service provider that says it has connected more than a million South African homes since 1997. It sells service on fibre networks run by other operators rather than building its own |
| Home fibre | Sold on Vumatel, Vuma Reach, Openserve (Web Connect) and Frogfoot (Access Home Air). Prices are shown only after you enter an address: on 30 October 2026 the fibre page listed no products until a street address was checked, so the deal depends on the network at your door |
| Fibre contract terms | On Vumatel lines the contract runs 12 months and then reverts to month-to-month; cancel inside the first 12 months and you owe the outstanding share of the installation and connection plus the rest of the monthly fees. Vuma Reach needs 15 days’ notice before the next payment date |
| Router and install | The router is free for as long as you subscribe but must be returned within 20 days of cancelling, or Mweb bills its retail value. An installation fee may apply and is advised before the install |
| LTE and 5G | From R299 a month, advertised with no commitments and no out-of-bundle costs. The SIM must be used at a fixed address; MTN SIMs are location-locked, Telkom SIMs can move |
| Business fibre | Advertised from R959 a month (the page does not say whether VAT is included). No uptime or SLA figure is published on the business fibre page |
| Voice | Mweb Voice: the page publishes international per-minute rates (UK and Germany R0.10, USA R0.14, Australia R0.32) and a full rate sheet, but no monthly line price |
| Contact | Sales 087 700 5000 (weekdays 7am to 6pm, Saturdays 8am to 1pm); technical support 087 700 0777 and billing 087 700 2121 (weekdays 7:30am to 8pm, weekends and public holidays 8am to 6pm); live chat on the website and in the Mweb app |
| ICASA licence | No licence numbers or registered address appear on the Mweb pages we checked on 30 October 2026; we’ll add them once confirmed |

With Mweb, the network at your address decides the price, the contract and who fixes the line
Mweb is a retail fibre internet provider: it sells the package and the support, while the fibre itself belongs to Vumatel, Openserve or Frogfoot. That is why its fibre page shows nothing until you type in a street address. Two neighbours on different networks can be offered different speeds, prices and terms by the same ISP. The terms differ by network too. A Vumatel line carries a 12-month contract before it goes month-to-month, and leaving early costs you the unrecovered installation plus the remaining months, while Vuma Reach only asks for 15 days’ notice. Outside fibre, Mweb’s LTE and 5G start at R299 a month with no fixed term, which suits a flat or rental where fibre isn’t in yet. Its long track record and support line that stays open until 8pm on weekdays are real strengths. Its 3.7 Google rating across more than 9,000 reviews is middling for its size. Before you sign, ask which network your address is on, what the installation fee is and whether the deal has a minimum term.
Who Mweb is a fit for
- Households on a Vumatel, Openserve or Frogfoot line that want an established national ISP and extended support hours.
- Renters or people moving soon who want LTE or 5G from R299 a month without a long contract.
- Small offices that want a simple business fibre line from one well-known brand, and are happy to ask for SLA terms in writing.

How much is Mweb fibre?
Mweb last showed a full home fibre list without an address check on 13 September 2026, starting at R279 a month for 5/5 Mbps uncapped. On 30 October 2026 its fibre page showed no packages until a street address was entered, because the price now depends on the network that serves you (Vumatel, Vuma Reach, Openserve or Frogfoot). Run your address on its site or ask us for quotes, and check the install fee and term at the same time. For reference, the 15 verified Fibre providers on WhichVoIP that do publish prices charge R279–R999 per month for an entry package, rising with speed and a business SLA, which puts Mweb at the bottom of that range. Compare published prices or get up to 3 quotes.
Does Mweb fibre have a contract?
On Vumatel lines, yes: 12 months, after which it reverts to month-to-month. Cancel in the first year and you pay the outstanding share of the installation and connection plus the remaining monthly fees. Vuma Reach asks for 15 days’ notice before the next payment date. Ask for the terms of the network at your address in writing.
Which fibre networks does Mweb use?
Mweb’s home fibre terms name Vumatel, Vuma Reach, Openserve (Web Connect) and Frogfoot, including Frogfoot’s Access Home Air. Mweb does not own these networks, so faults on the line are fixed by the network operator through Mweb.
Is Mweb LTE or 5G on a contract?
No. Mweb advertises its LTE and 5G with no commitments and no out-of-bundle charges, from R299 a month as published on 30 October 2026. The service must be used at one fixed address, and MTN SIMs are locked to that location.
Do I have to return the Mweb router?
Yes. The router is free while you subscribe, but you must return it within 20 days of cancelling or Mweb bills you its original retail value.
How do I contact Mweb support?
Technical support is on 087 700 0777 and billing on 087 700 2121, weekdays 7:30am to 8pm and weekends and public holidays 8am to 6pm. Sales is on 087 700 5000. Live chat runs on the website and in the Mweb app.
How does Mweb compare with other fibre providers?
Mweb brings scale, a long track record and long support hours, but a 3.7 Google rating and per-address pricing mean you should compare quotes on your own line. Our independent Mweb review scores it on the same rubric as every provider, and the fibre comparison puts scored providers side by side.
This listing is maintained by WhichVoIP, an independent South African telecoms comparison service running since 2019. Details are verified against the provider’s public website and were last checked on 30 October 2026.
