What are the best alternatives to Switch Telecom?
The best Switch Telecom alternatives in South Africa are Innovo Networks, for a published per-extension price from R49 with no ten-extension minimum, 24/7 support and the connectivity it runs on from the same supplier; Centracom, for carrier-owned reliability with voice and connectivity under one contract and a 24/7 service desk; and Kinetix Connect, for 3CX delivered and supported by one corporate vendor with a national on-site footprint. Switch scores 8.6 – the highest of the four on our rubric – so switch on structure, not score: if your team is smaller than ten seats, Innovo prices per extension; if you need a 24/7 desk, Centracom or Innovo; if you want one vendor for more than voice, Kinetix.
What is Switch Telecom?
A South African voice provider, ICASA-licensed since 2007, that runs its own voice network and publishes every price it charges – hosted switchboard, SIP trunks, call rates, number porting – to the cent, with free setup and month-to-month terms.
Switch is the price-transparency benchmark in this comparison: the Hosted Switchboard is R260 per ten extensions a month, the SIP trunk it requires is R100 for four channels (R25 per extra channel), call rates are published from 13c a minute on-net, 24c national and 43c to mobiles, and porting a geographic number costs R160 once-off – all ex VAT, all on the website before anyone phones you. At ten extensions that works out to an effective R36 per extension before calls. It scores 8.6/10 in our review – the highest score of the four providers here, with pricing value its strongest dimension at 9.2. The structural caveats sit elsewhere: the switchboard is sold only in ten-extension blocks, support runs Mon–Fri 08:00–17:00 with weekend standby reserved for Business & Corporate SLA customers, the company is deliberately voice-only, and no contractual uptime SLA is published on the public site.
How do the Switch Telecom alternatives compare?
Three vetted alternatives with Switch Telecom as the reference row. Scores are from each provider’s WhichVoIP review on the July 2026 rubric; the entry price is a dated fact from the provider’s own site, or “quote-based” where none is published.
| Provider | Best for | Entry price | Strongest dimension | Score |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kinetix Connect | 3CX from one corporate vendor | Quote-based | Support 7.8 | 7.1 |
| Centracom | Reliability and one carrier | Quote-based | Reliability 9.2 | 7.4 |
| Innovo Networks | Per-seat pricing, no minimum block | R49 / ext | Features 8.0 | 7.5 |
| Switch Telecom (reference) | Lowest published full-stack cost | R260 / 10 ext | Pricing 9.2 | 8.6 |

The three alternatives in detail
Kinetix Connect – 3CX from one corporate vendor
Strength: A 3CX phone system and contact centre delivered and supported by Kinetix Group, an office-technology business with more than twenty years of trading, four offices (Centurion, Fourways, Cape Town, Durban) and managed print, cybersecurity and networking from the same team – backed by the strongest public service record in this comparison, a 4.9-star Google listing across 52 reviews in which customers name the support staff.
Watch-out: Pricing is quote-based – no rate card at all, where Switch publishes every price it charges – and it publishes no uptime figure, running on an upstream carrier confirmed at quote, which is why its reliability dimension (6.4) is the lowest in this group.
We have been dealing with Kinetix for over 5 years and what an absolute pleasure it has been. Their service is incredible and nothing is too much. They respond to any queries or technical problems we may encounter with speed and integrity.

Centracom – reliability and one carrier
Strength: The reliability case: Centracom is a Tier 1 voice carrier trading since 2008 that owns the network it sells, interconnects with the mobile networks itself, fails calls over between networks, and publishes a 99.9% uptime figure and a 4.3 out of 5 voice-quality score – with PBX seats that grow into a contact-centre tier on the same login, a 24/7 service desk with a separate after-hours number, and voice plus connectivity under one contract.
Watch-out: Pricing is quote-based, scoped over two or three rounds, so there is no published per-line rate to compare against Switch’s R260-per-ten-extensions card – and its public Google rating runs low on a pattern dominated by cold-call complaints from non-customers rather than service issues from clients.
We recently had an incredible experience with Centracom and felt compelled to share. The level of service provided was excellent, from start to finish.

Innovo Networks – per-seat pricing and one supplier
Strength: A published per-extension price with no minimum block: Hosted PBX at R49 per extension per month (Starter), R99 (Custom) adding call recording, analytics and Microsoft Teams Direct Routing, and R149 (Enterprise) adding the omni-channel contact centre – with call rates published at 25c a minute to landlines and 35c to mobiles, billed per second, free on-net – sold with the business fibre, licensed microwave and 5G failover it runs on, by a Milnerton, Cape Town company trading since 2013 with 24/7 remote and on-site support serving 1,200-plus businesses.
Watch-out: The tiers are marked indicative and the SIP trunk they sit on is quoted separately, so the full monthly bill still needs a sales conversation – and the public review signal rests on a single Google listing at 4.5 across 36 reviews, with no HelloPeter presence. Its 99.99% hosted-PBX uptime commitment is stated by the company rather than published on its site.
My company has been a client of Innovo Networks for nearly a decade. During this time, they have provided excellent support for our telecommunications and internet requirements.

Our verdict
Switch Telecom earns the highest score in this comparison – 8.6 – by publishing everything: the switchboard, the trunk, the call rates, the porting fee, with free setup and month-to-month terms. Nothing here beats it on published price at ten seats or more. Compare when the structure does not fit: a team below ten seats paying for a full block (Innovo prices per extension), a business that needs a 24/7 desk (Centracom or Innovo), voice and connectivity on one bill (Centracom or Innovo), or a corporate vendor with a national on-site footprint (Kinetix). If you do switch, your geographic and 087 numbers port between licensed providers for a small once-off fee.
