The short answer

What are the best alternatives to Centracom?

The best Centracom alternatives in South Africa are Kinetix Connect, for 3CX delivered and supported by one corporate vendor; Innovo Networks, for the same one-supplier voice-and-connectivity model with a published R49-per-extension seat price; and Switch Telecom, for the lowest full-stack cost at R260 per ten extensions. Choose on what sent you looking: if you want a rate card before the first sales call, Innovo and Switch publish theirs; if a quoted, SLA-backed engagement still suits you, Kinetix runs the same model with the strongest public service record in this group.

What is Centracom?

A Johannesburg Tier 1 voice carrier, trading since 2008 from Woodmead, that sells hosted PBX, contact-centre seats, SIP trunking and connectivity on a network it runs itself.

Centracom is one of the few South African hosted PBX suppliers that is also the carrier: it interconnects with the networks itself, fails calls over between networks, and publishes a 99.9% uptime figure and a 4.3 out of 5 mean opinion score for voice quality. The Cloudcall range grows from a basic seat into a Call Centre tier with queues, wallboards and supervisor views on the same login, with connectivity sourced across more than 50 access providers and a 24/7 service desk with a separate after-hours number. It scores 7.4/10 in our review – reliability is its strongest dimension at 9.2; pricing value sits at 6.8 because every product is quoted, and its customer-signal score of 5.7 reflects a Google listing at 3.6 across 66 reviews, dominated by complaints about unsolicited sales calls from non-customers rather than service issues from clients.

Stay with Centracom if you procure on a requirements document, want the supplier to own the network your calls run on, need PBX seats and contact-centre seats on one platform, and value a 24/7 service desk over comparing rate cards. Read the Centracom review.

How do the Centracom alternatives compare?

Three vetted alternatives with Centracom as the reference row. Scores are from each provider’s WhichVoIP review on the July 2026 rubric; the entry price is a dated fact from the provider’s own site, or “quote-based” where none is published.

Provider Best for Entry price Strongest dimension Score

Read the prices carefully: Innovo publishes R49 per extension per month for its Hosted PBX Starter tier and its call rates – 25c a minute to landlines, 35c to mobiles, free on-net, billed per second – but SIP trunks are quoted separately. Switch bills R260 per ten extensions, month-to-month – an effective R26 an extension – before its SIP trunk from R100 a month. Kinetix and Centracom are quote-based, so their per-line cost is confirmed on request. Rand rates exclude 15% VAT.

Which Centracom alternative fits you?

Match the alternative to the reason you are looking.

You want a rate card before the first sales call: Innovo Networks or Switch TelecomCentracom quotes every product over two or three scoping rounds. Innovo publishes R49 per extension and its call rates; Switch publishes R260 per ten extensions, its trunk pricing and its call rates – both can be benchmarked the same day.
Price is the deciding factor: Switch TelecomA published R260 per ten extensions on a R100 SIP trunk, free setup, month-to-month, on its own licensed network, and the highest overall score we give (8.6).
You want one corporate vendor for more than voice: Kinetix Connect3CX phone system and contact centre from the group that can also run your managed print, cybersecurity, networking and CCTV, with four offices for on-site support and a Level 2 B-BBEE scorecard for tender-scored engagements.
You are a smaller office the quote process frustratesCentracom suits a 50-extension tender better than a 10-seat office. Under ten seats, Innovo prices per extension at R49, and Switch sells a usage-based VoIP Line from R52 a month – its R260 switchboard is sold in ten-extension blocks, so per-seat tiers are the sharper small-office comparison.

The three alternatives in detail

Kinetix Connect – 3CX from one corporate vendor

Strength: A 3CX phone system and contact centre delivered and supported by Kinetix Group, an office-technology business with more than twenty years of trading, four offices (Centurion, Fourways, Cape Town, Durban) and managed print, cybersecurity and networking from the same team – backed by the strongest public service record in this comparison, a 4.9-star Google listing across 52 reviews in which customers name the support staff.

Watch-out: Pricing is quote-based, the same starting point as Centracom – so if the missing rate card is what sent you looking, Kinetix does not fix that. It also publishes no uptime figure and runs on an upstream carrier confirmed at quote, which is why its reliability dimension (6.4) is the lowest in this group.

We have been dealing with Kinetix for over 5 years and what an absolute pleasure it has been. Their service is incredible and nothing is too much. They respond to any queries or technical problems we may encounter with speed and integrity.

Innovo Networks – a published seat price from one supplier

Strength: The closest structural match for what Centracom sells – voice and connectivity from one company – but with the prices on the page: Hosted PBX at R49 per extension per month (Starter), R99 (Custom) adding call recording, analytics and Teams Direct Routing, R149 (Enterprise) adding the omni-channel contact centre, plus published call rates at 25c a minute to landlines and 35c to mobiles, billed per second. The Milnerton company has traded since 2013, runs 24/7 support, and sells the business fibre, licensed microwave and 5G failover its voice runs on.

Watch-out: The seat price and call rates are public but the rest is not: SIP trunks and Teams routing are quoted, once-off charges and contract length are not shown, and the tiers are marked indicative. Its stated 99.99% hosted-PBX uptime commitment is one Innovo gave us directly rather than a figure published on its site – get it, and the full rate card, in writing.

My company has been a client of Innovo Networks for nearly a decade. During this time, they have provided excellent support for our telecommunications and internet requirements.

Switch Telecom – the lowest full-stack cost

Strength: A published hosted switchboard at R260 per ten extensions a month with no installation fee and month-to-month terms – an effective R26 per extension, the lowest verified entry point in this group – on its own voice network, ICASA-licensed since 2007, with published call rates from 13c on-net, 24c national and 43c to mobiles. It also sells SIP trunks from R100 for four channels and Microsoft Teams Direct Routing through its Cloud SBC.

Watch-out: Voice only – Switch does not sell the connectivity underneath, so a buyer leaving Centracom for the one-supplier model keeps a separate internet provider. The switchboard needs a SIP trunk on top, charged separately from R100 a month, it is sold in ten-extension blocks, and published support hours are business hours with weekend standby on the Business & Corporate SLA tiers rather than a 24/7 desk.

I continue to be impressed with the wonderful service from Switch Telecom. Good personal service is rare these days.

Our verdict

Centracom earns its place on the thing hardest to replicate: it owns the network, fails calls over between networks, and answers the phone at 3am. A mid-market business that procures on RFP and wants voice, contact centre and connectivity under one contract has a real reason to stay. Compare when one priority clearly outweighs that: a rate card you can check before you buy (Innovo, Switch), the lowest full-stack cost (Switch), or the same quoted model from a vendor with a stronger public service record (Kinetix). If you do switch, your geographic and 087 numbers port between licensed providers for a small once-off fee.

Our recommendation: Get the Centracom quote broken into seat price, trunk, call rates, once-off costs and the SLA terms – including whether the 99.9% figure carries service credits – then price the same lines from one or two of the providers above before you decide.

Centracom alternatives: common questions

Why do South African businesses compare alternatives to Centracom?
Two reasons come up. The first is the missing rate card: hosted PBX, SIP trunking and connectivity are all quote-based, scoped over two or three rounds, so a buyer who wants to benchmark a seat price the same day has nothing to benchmark against. The second is the public review record – a 3.6 Google rating across 66 reviews and a low HelloPeter index – though most of the low ratings concern unsolicited sales calls from non-customers rather than service issues from clients. The alternatives here either publish a rate (Innovo at R49 per extension, Switch at R260 per ten) or, in the case of Kinetix, quote too but lead on the vendor relationship and a 4.9-star service record.
What does Centracom actually cost?
It is quoted per engagement. No product carries a public price – the Cloudcall PBX seats, the Call Centre tier, SIP trunking and connectivity are all scoped against your requirements, and call rates are described as volume-tiered rather than listed. Ask for the per-seat rate, the trunk, the call rates, once-off costs and the contract term as separate lines in the quote, and ask whether the published 99.9% uptime figure carries service credits in your agreement.
Which Centracom alternative is cheapest?
On published pricing, Switch Telecom: R260 per ten extensions a month plus a SIP trunk from R100 works out to an effective R36 per extension all-in (excl. VAT) at ten extensions, with free setup and month-to-month terms. Innovo Networks publishes the lowest single seat at R49 per extension, but its SIP trunk is quoted, so compare the whole stack. Kinetix, like Centracom, is quote-based.
Is the Centracom 99.9% uptime figure a contractual SLA?
It is a published figure, and the infrastructure behind it is real – Centracom is a Tier 1 carrier on its own network with multi-network failover and a published 4.3 out of 5 voice-quality score. Whether the figure carries service credits, response times and restoration commitments is settled per contract, so ask for the SLA terms in writing during the quote. Treat the alternatives the same way: Innovo states a 99.99% hosted-PBX commitment directly rather than publishing it, and Switch publishes no contractual uptime SLA on its public site.
Should you move away from Centracom at all?
Not necessarily. Centracom is one of the few South African hosted PBX suppliers that also owns the carrier network underneath, with multi-network failover, a 24/7 service desk with a separate after-hours number, and PBX seats that grow into a contact centre on the same login – and most of its negative public reviews come from people it cold-called, not clients it serves. Compare when one priority clearly outweighs that: a rate card you can check before you buy, the lowest full-stack cost, or a vendor whose public service record reads stronger. If you do switch, your numbers port for a small once-off fee.
