Yealink vs Poly: who earns the desk in 2026?
Both brands rebuilt their line-ups inside twelve months. We re-ran the SA desk-phone shootout on Teams certification runway, warranty terms and channel depth, so you buy on facts rather than badge loyalty.
Should my business buy Yealink or Poly desk phones in 2026?
For most South African desks, Yealink. Its range is broader, the local channel is deeper, and its Teams-native MP E2 phones are certified to October 2030. Pick Poly where audio is the product: boardrooms and executive desks. Warranty is a wash at 12 months either way.
What changed since our last look
Both vendors replaced their flagships within a year of each other, and the safe 2025 advice is now stale.
Yealink moved first. On 4 November 2025 it launched the T7 and T8 series, eight new SIP desk phones with Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.0 and a hardware security layer built on a trusted execution environment. The T8 flagships add AI noise cancellation and a USB-C device mode that turns the phone into a laptop speakerphone. The familiar T3, T4 and T5 ranges stay on sale underneath them, so the ladder now runs from a two-line entry unit to a touchscreen executive set without leaving the brand.
HP answered in April 2026 with the Poly Edge V series: eight Open SIP models from the V200 to the dual-screen V850, carrying NoiseBlockAI, a hardware security module and a programmable emergency key. The catch sits in the fine print – availability is “expected September 2026 through select partners”, with US pricing from $159. As we write, you cannot buy one.
A word on the marketing: both launches lean hard on “AI”. On a desk phone that means microphone noise suppression. It is genuinely useful in an open-plan office, but it is not intelligence, and it should not move your budget on its own.
Yealink vs Poly, head to head
Nine rows, one honest scorecard: Yealink takes the fleet economics and the platform runway, Poly takes the sound.
| Factor | Yealink | Poly (HP) |
|---|---|---|
| Current desk range | T3, T4, T5 plus new T7/T8 – widest span, entry to executive | Edge E, CCX, legacy VVX; Edge V from Sep 2026 |
| Teams-native phones | MP52/54/55/56/58 E2 and MP66 W, certified to Oct 2030 | CCX 350–600 and Trio C60, certified to Aug 2028 |
| Teams SIP Gateway | T3x, T4x and T5x families supported | Edge E, Edge V and VVX supported |
| Zoom certification | Selected models; confirm per model | Edge E series carries “Certified for Zoom” on HP’s own pages |
| Audio processing | Solid; AI noise cancellation new on the T8 | NoiseBlockAI and Acoustic Fence across the range |
| Cordless DECT | W-series multi-cell, the SA hospitality and warehouse staple | Rove family, a far thinner catalogue |
| Conference phones | CP925/CP935W/CP965; CP965 is Teams-certified | Trio C60 Teams-certified, with decades of boardroom pedigree |
| Entry-tier cost | T30/T31 units anchor the lowest cost per desk in SA | Cheapest new line, Edge V, opens at $159 in the US |
| SA channel | Official importer since 2009 plus near-universal reseller stocking | Enterprise-led distribution, fewer stocking resellers |
Warranty does not appear in the table because there is nothing to separate: Yealink’s RMA policy gives SIP desk phones, DECT and conference units 12 months, and HP states a one-year limited warranty on the Edge E. The old assumption that Poly’s premium buys longer cover is simply wrong.
ICASA is closer than most buyers expect too. Hardware needs ICASA Type Approval, and the regulator’s published equipment list carries core models from both camps, including the Yealink T53W, T54W and T57W alongside the Poly CCX 400 and CCX 600. For the newest ranges, T7/T8 and Edge V, approval is not yet published – ask your distributor to show the type-approval label before you sign.

Our verdict
Yealink wins the 2026 rematch for most South African businesses. It holds the broader range, the deeper local channel, the stronger DECT story and the only Teams-native phones certified past 2028. Poly keeps a real and defensible lead where it always had one: audio engineering and room devices, where NoiseBlockAI and the Trio C60 still set the standard. The honest caveat is timing – the Edge V could shift Poly’s value story when it ships in September, and neither vendor has published SA rand pricing or ICASA approval for its newest models yet, which is why you will find no street prices in this article.
