The top-scored AI receptionist option in South Africa is 3CX at 7.9/10, a phone-system score for the whole 3CX platform, whose AI Edition includes an AI Receptionist; among dedicated AI receptionist services, BizAI scores highest at 6.7/10. Rand-priced plans start at R849 a month (SME Advantage, with AI calls billed on top at about R8.50 to R10.50 a minute) and R999 ex VAT (BizAI, 100 minutes included), and run to R7,500 ex VAT for Aiployee's unlimited-minute plan. How minutes are charged matters more than the headline price.
There is no sponsored partner in this category, so these are simply the three highest WhichVoIP scores. The 3CX and Yeastar scores cover their whole phone systems, which include an AI receptionist; ElevenLabs is a build-it-yourself platform; BizAI is the top-scored managed AI receptionist service. How scoring and sponsorship work.
Disclosure: WhichVoIP also offers its own AI receptionist service (try the demo). It is not listed or scored on this page, and it has no bearing on the scores, prices or order shown here.

Key features column: Book · CRM · Human · Multilingual · Msg · Transcript. A green tick means the provider’s own website states the feature; a grey dash means it is not stated there, not that it is missing.
Hear an AI receptionist answer a call before you decide. The demo is WhichVoIP’s own service, which is not listed or scored on this page.
Six checks that separate a useful AI receptionist from an expensive voicemail. Every example comes from the table above.
Headline prices are not comparable until you know your call minutes. BizAI includes 100 AI-answered minutes and then charges R3.50 a minute, AiSky gives a once-off pool of 250 minutes and then R0.97 a minute, and SME Advantage bills AI calls at about R8.50 to R10.50 a minute on top of its plan. Aiployee's Single-call plan includes unlimited minutes. 3CX runs its AI Receptionist on your own OpenAI account, so AI usage is billed by OpenAI, and ElevenLabs charges $0.08 for each minute beyond the plan plus LLM usage. Multiply your monthly call volume by the average call length before you compare.
An AI receptionist that answers one call at a time still sends overflow to voicemail. Aiployee's Single-call plan handles one call at a time, AiSky includes five simultaneous call slots, BizAI up to six and Yeastar up to ten per AI receptionist. 3CX caps each AI-handled call at 3 minutes. Ask every provider what happens to the second and third caller.
You should not have to change the number on your website and vehicles. BizAI forwards your existing business number to its AI, and AiSky keeps your number through forwarding or SIP. 3CX and Yeastar answer inside the phone system you already run. ElevenLabs connects over a SIP trunk or Twilio. Confirm whether telephone charges are billed separately, as Aiployee's are.
AiSky states support for all 11 official South African languages, and BizAI handles English and Afrikaans with South African accents. Yeastar lists 34 languages and ElevenLabs more than 70, without naming South African ones. A demo on your real call types, in your callers' languages, tells you more than any feature list.
Setup ranges from R0 (BizAI and AiSky) to R5,000 ex VAT (Aiployee) and R3,950 to R11,950 (Le Roux Digital). BizAI is month-to-month, AiSky has no minimum term, Le Roux Digital asks for a 3-month minimum, and 3CX is an annual licence. Start with a short term until the agent handles your calls well.
A managed service (BizAI, AiSky, Aiployee, SME Advantage, Le Roux Digital) sets the receptionist up and keeps it working. A phone-system add-on (3CX, Yeastar) suits a business whose installer already runs that system. A platform such as ElevenLabs is cheapest per minute but you build, test and maintain the agent yourself.
The short version: estimate your monthly call minutes first, check how many calls it answers at once, and test it on your own call types and languages before you sign.
Compare like for like: each price is shown on the provider’s own VAT basis, 3CX is priced in euros per year and ElevenLabs in US dollars, and several services bill phone-line or AI-model charges separately. Add those before you compare totals.
Developer platforms sell the building blocks rather than a finished receptionist. They charge in US dollars, usually per minute, and you still need to connect a phone number, design the call flows and maintain them. ElevenLabs is in the table above; these are the other common platforms. Website-only voice agents, such as VoiceReceptionist.co.za, answer visitors who click to talk in their browser rather than calls to your phone number, so they are not in the table.

WhichVoIP's ratings are calculated using a weighted scoring model across five dimensions. Every provider is evaluated using the same criteria, and no provider can pay for a higher score or a higher position in the comparison table. Every provider has a full written review, linked from its score. The breakdown for ElevenLabs, SME Advantage and Le Roux Digital, the three most recently scored, is below.
3CX and Yeastar are scored as whole phone systems; the score covers the platform their AI receptionist runs on, not the AI feature alone. WhichVoIP also sells its own AI receptionist service. We do not score our own service, and it is not included in this comparison.
| Provider | Pricing value | Feature set | Reliability & uptime | Support quality | Score | What decided it |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ElevenLabs | 7.0 | 8.0 | 7.0 | 4.5 | 6.8 | Lowest per-minute rate and the fullest toolset, but US hosting, no SA support and you build the agent yourself. |
| SME Advantage | 5.5 | 7.5 | 5.5 | 6.0 | 6.2 | Cheapest rand plan and a full CRM around the agent, but R8.50 to R10.50 a minute on top, US-hosted white-label platform, no porting. |
| Le Roux Digital | 5.0 | 6.5 | 5.0 | 6.5 | 5.8 | Done-for-you and Cape Town-based, but the highest setup fees, unpublished minutes and overage rate, office-hours support and an undisclosed platform. |
None of these three has a South African public rating with enough reviews to score, so Customer reviews is not scored and the other four dimensions are re-weighted to 100% (31.25% each for pricing and features, 18.75% each for reliability and support).
Prices and features are read from each provider’s own website and re-checked on a schedule. When a provider changes its pricing, this page updates from our verified record rather than by hand.
