Airband Connect was founded in 2006 to provide internet connectivity within Durban and the surrounding areas of Greytown and Pietermaritzburg.
Airband Connect was formed with the aim of delivering reliable wireless connectivity in the Durban area as an alternative to Telkom who existed as the sole internet provider in the area at the time. Airband’s goal is to provide corporate customers and small business holders with robust, reliable, high-speed connections, with a focus on under-serviced areas supported by valuable back-up services. Airband South Africa still holds strong ties to Airband UK through their mutual founder and shareholder, Redmond Peel.
Adopted Fibre to complement our wireless network to offer YOU a wider choice of internet connectivity within the Kwazulu-Natal region, including harder-to-reach rural areas.
Proud to be local and leverage our national group for industry-leading best practice.
Our primary means of growth is through word-of-mouth as a solid competitor to large-scale ISPs such as Telkom.A large part of Airband’s success has been a result of new legislation under the Electronic Communications Act of 2006 that brought Airband South Africa into existence. Based off the Airband network and billing systems designed and utilised by Airband UK, Airband South Africa uses an open frequency system that has slowed us to roll out internet service across their area without having to wait for government to allocate wireless frequencies. This has allowed Airband Connect to expand faster than if we had to wait on slow government processes. We want to inject a breath of fresh air into the process of getting a new internet connection.
Airband joined the HeroTel group in 2015 with offers of Fibre high-speed solutions, and is now a proudly 100% HeroTel powered company, providing our customers with the best wireless solutions available without any fuss.
