What are the best alternatives to Agent Help for a South African business?
The Agent Help alternatives to test are Remi, which includes 500 talk-minutes for R1,900 a month and charges R1.85 for each minute after that; BizAI, whose Voice Valet receptionist is a R999 add-on to a CRM plan from R999 a month ex VAT; and ElevenLabs, a build-it-yourself agent platform that starts at $6 a month. Agent Help scores 6.6 and suits an appointment-based practice that wants a South African company, a platform it says is built and hosted locally, and bookings in Google Calendar or Outlook. The main reason to look further is cost per minute on a busy line: Agent Help bills every minute of talk time and charges R13 a minute once a bundle runs out.
What is Agent Help?
Agent Help is an AI receptionist from Agent Help (Pty) Ltd in Napier, Western Cape, that answers a business’s existing number, books callers into the diary and confirms each booking on WhatsApp or email.
Four monthly plans are published, all ex VAT and billed on total talk time: Starter R1,999 for 150 minutes, Professional R4,799 for 400, Business R6,749 for 750 and Enterprise R12,100 for 1,500, with each extra minute at R13. There is no setup or cancellation fee and no lock-in, and the company says a line goes live within 48 hours. Calls are answered in English and Afrikaans with switching mid-call (isiZulu and isiXhosa are stated as on the roadmap), bookings land in Google Calendar or Microsoft 365, confirmations go out within 30 seconds and reminders follow at 24 hours and one hour. Agent Help scores 6.6/10 in our review: features (7.5) are its strongest dimension, pricing value scores 6.5 and reliability and support 6.0 each, and customer reviews are not scored because we found no Google listing for it. The platform is described as built and hosted in South Africa, with Agent Help acting as POPIA operator and an Information Officer registered with the Information Regulator; its terms promise no uninterrupted service and cap liability at three months of fees. Support depends on the plan: email in business hours on Professional, a named contact from Business up.
How do the Agent Help alternatives compare?
Agent Help is the last row, for reference. Scores are those on each service’s WhichVoIP review (July 2026 rubric), and entry prices were read on the provider’s own website on the dates in the sources note. ElevenLabs bills in US dollars; the other three bill in rand.
| Provider | Best for | Entry price | Strongest dimension | Score |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ElevenLabs | Teams that want to build their own agent | $6 / month (75 min) | Features 8.0 | 6.8 |
| Remi | Busy booking lines that need cheap minutes | R1,900 / month (500 min) | Pricing and features 7.5 | 6.7 |
| BizAI | Calls that should land in a CRM | R1,998 / month ex VAT (plan + add-on, 100 min) | Pricing and features 7.0 | 6.7 |
| Agent Help (reference) | Practices that want a local platform | R1,999 / month ex VAT (150 min) | Features 7.5 | 6.6 |

The three alternatives in detail
ElevenLabs – build and run your own voice agent
Strength: The cheapest way to start: Starter is $6 a month for 75 call minutes, Creator $22 for 275 and Scale $299 for 3,738, before taxes, with extra minutes at $0.08. Agents can book appointments, write to a CRM, send messages, keep transcripts, transfer a caller to a person and connect to outside tools over MCP. Features (8.0) and reliability (7.0) are the highest of the four services on this page.
Watch-out: You are the integrator. The AI model is charged on top of the plan, telephony comes from your own provider, customer data is hosted in the United States unless you are on Enterprise terms, and SLAs exist only on Enterprise. Support is its weakest dimension at 4.5, against 6.0 for Agent Help.
Remi – the most minutes for the money
Strength: Remi includes 500 talk-minutes on its R1,900 Lite plan, more than Agent Help’s 400 on a plan costing R4,799, and extra minutes cost R1.85 instead of R13. It works the same appointment-led market (clinics, salons, trades, vets), texts back missed callers, sends no-show reminders at 48, 24 and 2 hours, and replies by message in all 11 official languages. Pricing value and features both score 7.5.
Watch-out: Calls are answered in English and Afrikaans only, the same pair as Agent Help. The company is registered in England and Wales, its privacy policy names US-based processors for calls and AI, and support is by email and WhatsApp with no South African phone number published. Support scores 5.0 and reliability 5.5, both below Agent Help.
BizAI – a receptionist bolted onto a CRM
Strength: BizAI, a Midrand product of TULSAPAX (Pty) Ltd, sells everything in rand: CRM plans from R999 a month ex VAT for three users, and Voice Valet at R999 a month with 100 AI-answered minutes, English and Afrikaans, Google Calendar and Outlook booking and transfer to a person with context. Support runs on WhatsApp and email in South African business hours, setup is self-service or R850 an hour assisted, and it scores 6.5 for support.
Watch-out: Voice Valet is never bundled into a plan, and above 100 minutes BizAI quotes rather than publishing a rate, so a busy line needs a written price first. Its AI processing runs through disclosed overseas sub-processors. BizAI re-priced since our September review (it then listed a R599 Starter plan), so check the current price list before you compare. Reliability is its lowest score at 6.0.
There are no customer quotes on this page: we found no Google listing with reviews for any of the four services, and their reviews leave customer reviews unscored rather than borrow ratings from other sites.
Our verdict
Agent Help is a sound choice for a practice that keeps its talk time inside a bundle, books in Outlook or Google Calendar and wants a local company with locally hosted data behind its receptionist; it scores 6.6 and publishes every plan in rand. The case for switching is volume: from a few hundred minutes a month, Remi does the same appointment work for far less per minute. Pick BizAI if the calls should feed a shared CRM and WhatsApp inbox, and ElevenLabs only if you have someone to build and maintain the agent.
